Eclipsing binaryRare, already known

Rare & notable finds

Something unusual, worth a look - less certain than a significant find. How these checks work →

Already known: in SIMBAD as Gaia DR3 827111612020422528 (PM*); in the ATLAS variable-star catalogue (Heinze et al. 2018) as J150.4282+51.0926. The rare-find check confirms what is on record - still nice, but not a new discovery.

  • Red-dwarf eclipsing binary notable
Two small, cool stars (3264 K) eclipsing each other. Red dwarfs are the most common stars, yet their sizes don't match the theory - every new eclipsing pair of them helps.
  • Extra dips outside the eclipses hint
1 dip(s) that don't belong to the eclipses (at BTJD 3355.04): a planet orbiting both stars (circumbinary, like Kepler-16b) makes dips at irregular times, or a third star.

Notes

Rare, already known: Red-dwarf eclipsing binary; Extra dips outside the eclipses (in SIMBAD as Gaia DR3 827111612020422528 (PM*); in the ATLAS variable-star catalogue (Heinze et al. 2018) as J150.4282+51.0926). Found automatically by hunt.py in TESS sector 21 (flagged in 1 sector(s)). Detection score 796.2. Not in VSX, ASAS-SN or ZTF variable catalogues at the time of the search; not in Gaia DR3's variable lists. Unchecked by hand yet: verify the period, nearby stars and a wider catalogue search.
