Eclipsing binaryRare, already known

Rare & notable finds

Something unusual, worth a look - less certain than a significant find. How these checks work →

Already known: catalogued variable star nearby: ZTF J014320.59+444444.0 (EW, P = 0.32271 d), 253" away; in the ATLAS variable-star catalogue (Heinze et al. 2018) as J025.8812+44.8081. The rare-find check confirms what is on record - still nice, but not a new discovery.

  • Microlensing (rogue planet?) hint
A one-off, symmetric brightening at BTJD 3624.57 that fits the gravitational-lens shape better than a flare (Einstein time 41.2 h). This length points to a star or brown dwarf as the lens. Very rare in TESS data; scattered light and asteroids can mimic it.

Notes

Rare, already known: Microlensing (rogue planet?) (catalogued variable star nearby: ZTF J014320.59+444444.0 (EW, P = 0.32271 d), 253" away; in the ATLAS variable-star catalogue (Heinze et al. 2018) as J025.8812+44.8081). Found automatically by hunt.py in TESS sector 18 (flagged in 1 sector(s)). Detection score 367.7. Not in VSX, ASAS-SN or ZTF variable catalogues at the time of the search; not in Gaia DR3's variable lists. Unchecked by hand yet: verify the period, nearby stars and a wider catalogue search.
