Rare & notable finds

Something unusual, worth a look - less certain than a significant find. How these checks work →

Already known: in SIMBAD as UCAC4 801-017900 (SB*). The rare-find check confirms what is on record - still nice, but not a new discovery.

  • Microlensing (rogue planet?) hint
A one-off, symmetric brightening at BTJD 3313.73 that fits the gravitational-lens shape better than a flare (Einstein time 41.2 h). This length points to a star or brown dwarf as the lens. Very rare in TESS data; scattered light and asteroids can mimic it.
  • Changing transit depth hint
The dip depth changes by 14% between transits - a disintegrating planet trailing dust, starspots, or light from another star mixing in.
  • Lopsided transit hint
The start of the transit is deeper than the end: a dust tail (disintegrating planet), rings, a fast-spinning star, or a blend.

Notes

Probably noise or an instrument effect. Rare, already known: Microlensing (rogue planet?); Changing transit depth; Lopsided transit (in SIMBAD as UCAC4 801-017900 (SB*)). NOTE: SIMBAD already lists this star (UCAC4 801-017900) as type SB*, so it may be known after all - check the SIMBAD references. Found automatically by hunt.py in TESS sector 20 (flagged in 1 sector(s)). Detection score 236.5. Not in VSX, ASAS-SN or ZTF variable catalogues at the time of the search; not in Gaia DR3's variable lists. Unchecked by hand yet: verify the period, nearby stars and a wider catalogue search.
